Glenn Hoddle is looking forward to having his full quota of strikers - but admits he doesn't believe in a 'rotation' system.
Sergei Rebrov's magnificent return to action at Fulham on Thursday, capped with a goal, would appear to have handed Glenn the type of problem managers love - having to select between players in form.
Les Ferdinand, who sat out the Worthington Cup win with an ankle injury, is expected to be fit for Monday's visit of Bolton.
So, assuming skipper Teddy Sheringham will start, Glenn will have to choose between Les, who scored at West Ham last Saturday and Sergei, on target at Craven Cottage.
Steffen Iversen, on the bench at Fulham, will soon be fully fit and hand Glenn his full compliment of forwards.
Asked if he would consider a rotation system, Glenn replied: "I've never believed in that word rotation. For me, it doesn't make sense.
"Sometimes you are playing opposition and you see certain things in a player that will suit playing that opposition.
"When you have strikers like that, that's how you work as a coach, not necessarily saying 'we'll rest him here', that could work against you.
"At the moment we haven't had those options because players have been out injured. If we could get to that stage that's the next port of call.
"They are options managers love to have. When your team picks itself because of injury, that is more of a test. I would rather have the other test anytime.
"What I will say is that we've eight matches now in December alone. We've got to look at that."
Pressed on that apparent selection poser between Sergei and Les, Glenn added: "It's not just about 11 players.
"Sergei wants to play, of course, but so does Les, Teddy, they all do. On any given day you have a squad of 16 to use and that's how a manager will look at it. As a player you look at it differently.
"I get paid for getting results for this club and that's what will happen. For whatever reasons I'll play 11 players and there will be a method behind why those 11 go out.
"Players want to play but managers have to manage. That's what it's all about."
