Strength between the sticks
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Paul Robinson says the quality of the goalkeeping department at the club will ensure he does everything possible to remain at the top of his game.
It is a position where the squad enjoys real strength in depth, with Paul set to battle it out with Kasey Keller for the No.1 spot, backed up by another new recruit Marton Fulop and Academy product Robert Burch.
"It looks strong and there are good goalkeepers here," reasoned Paul. "It will definitely help in raising my game knowing that the other lads all want the same thing."
The squad certainly has a youngish profile to it and Paul draws a comparison with his former club Leeds United when they were flying high and challenging in Europe a few years ago.
"It is a similar kind of thing to how it was at Leeds a few years ago," he added, saying the opening games of the season against Liverpool and Newcastle are tests the boys will relish as the management seek to lay the early foundations for a successful future. "We had a young team with a great camaraderie. I have settled in pretty easily and it is a good bunch of lads.
"The way this club wants to go, the first two are the kind of games you want to be playing in and winning. Especially the first game, Liverpool at home, the fans will all be there and it is a massive game for us. Where better to start off with three points."
At the age of just 24 - relatively young for a Premiership keeper - Paul agrees that, once he has cemented the first team spot, he could be the Spurs keeper for the next ten years or more.
"That is how I am looking at it, hopefully. You can't express enough what a special club this is. You could say it has underachieved in the last few years but, hopefully, with the new management, it can be put right over the next couple of seasons.
"I have a contract and I am not looking beyond that at the moment. I would love to extend that if things are going right and we will keep pushing forward."
