Stoke 0-4 Spurs - Mauricio's verdict

Mon 18 April 2016, 23:04|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino lavished praise on the players after a masterclass at Stoke on Monday night.

Harry Kane fired us into an early lead and after creating more chances, we finally doubled our advantage through Dele Alli in the second half.

That goal took the team to another level, Dele missed another golden chance before Erik Lamela handed a third on a plate to Harry. Christian Eriksen connected with Dele again for the final 4-0 scoreline and the players were swept away on a tidal wave of noise from 3,000 away fans after the final whistle.

The win saw us narrow the gap to leaders Leicester to five points with four matches remaining in the Premier League.

“It was amazing, we feel very proud of our players and they deserve full credit, all the praise,” said Mauricio. “We showed character, passion, we were hungry and we enjoyed that 93 minutes.

“We’ve arrived at a crucial moment (of the season) at a very good level, we’re happy with how we are and we need to continue pushing and putting the pressure on Leicester.”

You mentioned the hunger of the team, the players were still pressing high at 4-0 up on 90 minutes!

Mauricio: “It’s fantastic, the mentality and everything we’ve showed from the start of the season.”

This young squad seems to show no nerves, how does that feel at this stage?
Mauricio: “This is also brilliant because they believe and they trust in the philosophy we play. It’s fantastic and when you feel that, you can only enjoy it.”

And what about those fans?
Mauricio: “Wow! Our fans were fantastic. They deserve this moment and one more time, thank you very much, their support was incredible.”
