Stoke 0-1 Spurs - Tim's verdict

Tim Sherwood paid tribute to a strong defensive display as we secured a 1-0 win at Stoke on Saturday.

Danny Rose’s first half header was enough for the three points - his first league goal since his debut stunner against Arsenal in 2010 - and our 10th away win of the campaign.

Always one of the toughest away trips, this was only Stoke’s third home loss all season having already toppled United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

And the Potters didn’t go down without a fight, despite going down to 10 men when Ryan Shawcross picked up a second yellow card on 52 minutes.

If anything, that inspired Stoke and their fans and we were forced to defend stoutly to hold onto the victory.

“This is a tough place to come, Stoke have only lost three times and taken some big scalps and I'm sure a few coupons might have said ‘home win’, but I didn’t feel like that,” said Tim.

“I thought we were comfortable in the first half and should have gone in at half-time having scored more goals, but when they went down to 10 men it seemed to galvanise them. It gave them a lift.

“I’m delighted with the clean sheet and Hugo has deserved that over the last month or so. Younes and Michael were very good, put their bodies on the line and Kyle and Danny played well.

“Danny was excellent and our match winner today. He’s still learning the game and will learn from that today.

“This is a tough place to come, you have to work hard and hopefully we’ve sent our great travelling support home happy with the three points.”
