Stevie P on Daws and Hugo

Mon 31 March 2014, 17:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Legendary former Spurs captain Steve Perryman has praised the "outstanding commitment" of current skipper Michael Dawson.

Perryman, our record appearance maker in a senior career that spanned 1969-86, has played alongside many international central defenders in his time at White Hart Lane.

These include the likes of Mike England, Gary Mabbutt and Graham Roberts. And when asked in a recent e-Hotspur poll which current Spurs player he would have liked to have in his side, Perryman had no hesitation in selecting Daws.

"He's my kind of player," says Steve. "His commitment is outstanding and he's the sort of man that you'd want alongside you in the heat of battle.

"Michael is dedicated to Tottenham and you continually can see that in his play. He will always give you 100 per cent no matter what the circumstances.

"I've also been impressed by Hugo Lloris. I've been fortunate to have played in front of Pat Jennings and Ray Clemence but Hugo is right up there because of the way he commands his penalty area and his mobility is a great asset to any defender.

"It's like having a second sweeper because his reading of the play as it builds up and heads his way is exceptional. He reacts so well in advance to any danger."
