Steffen's big bonus
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Steffen Iversen describes his playing return as a ‘big bonus’ as he contemplates a possible return to the first team squad for the crunch FA Cup 5th round tie against Stockport.
The Norwegian has been out of action since the end of September and has been forced to watch as Les Ferdinand, Sergei Rebrov, Chris Armstrong, Dave McEwen, Willem Korsten, Gary Doherty and Andy Booth have all attempted to provide a striking threat during his enforced absence.
Iversen made his return as a substitute in Tuesday night’s reserve fixture against Wimbledon and his confidence has increased as a result of that run-out.
"The rehab has been going really well in the last few weeks," Said Steffen. "I’ve been training a lot with the team, plenty of running, lots of ball work and it’s a big bonus to be back as early as this because I expected it to at least another couple of weeks.
"I am delighted to have got 20 minutes for the reserves. The movement feels okay, a bit heavy, but it feels good to be back again."
Steffen now has his eyes set firmly on being in the 16 to face Stockport on Saturday.
"I’d love to be involved against Stockport and it would be great news for me to be on the bench. We’ll just see how it progresses for the rest of the week.
"It feels fine at the moment and if it continues to feel that way hopefully I’ll be involved. It is always important to get playing again as soon as you can. The knee feels fine and it’s up to me to keep going."
Having suffered a number of lengthy injuries during his time at the Lane, Steffen is well aware of the long-term benefits of not rushing back into action and letting the injury heal properly.
"It is always hard to try and hold yourself back, but I have managed to do it. I could have gone into training a lot earlier, but I’ve been patient because of all the injuries I’ve had in the past.
"I’ve taken my time, stayed relaxed about it and hopefully I’ll be ready towards the weekend. It’ll be great to be involved, as it’s a huge game for us."
