Steffen: Injuries cost us
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Steffen Iversen has laid last season’s failings firmly at the door at the horrendous injury list that the club was forced to cope with — and Steffen had his fair share of bad luck.
Our Norwegian hitman has been dogged with bad luck over the last campaign, knee injuries and heavy bangs on the head limited his imput.
He summed it all up with a heavy sense of irony.
“It’s been special,” he sighed. “I started off the season playing in midfield actually, the first games I played. Then I got my knee injury, early in November I think, then I was out with two knee injuries.
“I came back played a few games and felt well, felt good and then got a head injury for Norway, that wasn’t that bad and I came back and played the next game and felt alright. Then a few games later I got another against Bradford and after that it was a bit dodgy.”
And, as we all know, he was not alone in his misfortune…
“I think it’s been a disappointing season for us really, not just because we didn’t do well in the League and cups, but because we had so many key players injured for such a long time during the season.
“Anderton was injured for much of the season, Sol, Sergei, Les — so many. I’ve been injured, Leo, Freund — even Chris Perry, who is never normally injured. Stephen Carr’s been out, so many injuries. That’s the biggest disappointment for us I think, because everyone’s been injured.
“I think that why we didn’t do as well as we should have done.”
Steffen is now relishing the prospect of putting injury worries firmly to one side and starting the season afresh with Glenn at the helm.
"We are looking forward now, we’ve got a new coach, a new assistant coach and a lot of new things are happening to the club. I think the new things that are happening are good for us and I think most of the players are looking forward to next season. Me too.”
