Robbie Keane reflected that it was 'extra special' for him to score the goal that equalled Niall Quinn's Republic of Ireland goalscoring record.
Robbie netted a penalty against Cyprus on Saturday to level the 21-goal mark set by the former Sunderland front man as the Republic opened with a 3-0 win, followed up by a 1-1 outcome against Switzerland on Wednesday.
"Obviously it was nice," said Robbie of the record leveller. "It is always nice to score for your country but it was extra special to equal Niall Quinn's record.
"The most important thing was the result, it was the good start that we needed and it was a good point in Switzerland too. We lost twice to them before in qualifying for Euro 2004 and we knew it would be tough. We got the early goal and we knew they would come back at us - I think 1-1 was probably a fair result."
Although Robbie's focus was very much on his own game, he was delighted to hear that three Spurs players made it into the England starting line-up in Poland to great effect.
"Of course, Ledley has done very well since he broke into the team and, for Jermain, it was only a matter of time.
"It was his first start and, I saw the goal in the morning, and it was a typical Jermain finish. They didn't show much of Robbo, but I'm sure he did very well," added the striker, who feels it is another signal the positive direcion the club is heading.
"The three of them are young lads all under 25 and it is terrific for the club to see them in the starting line-up. Full credit to them."
Meanwhile, with the international break out of the way, attention is now centres on the visit of Norwich City to the Lane on Sunday - no easy task according to Robbie.
"It is going to be a hard game, teams that have just come up always come at you very hard. They want to stay in the league and get as many early points as they can.
"By no means is it going to be an easy game but, if we keep playing the way we have, I don't see any reason why we shouldn't get the three points.
"To get off to a good start always helps a team, we've had a little break now and it is important that we maintain it."
