*Pleat on the firing squad
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
David Pleat reasons that making a big issue of our recent barren spell in front of goal is not the best way to get the team firing again.
After the much-publicised spell in which the team netted 15 goals in four games - with 13 conceded - we have now gone five games without one of our players scoring. The win in this period against Newcastle was settled by an Andy O'Brien own goal.
Asked how a coach or manager goes about rejuvenating the goalscoring instinct of his team, David insists the key is relaxing the players and having confidence in them.
"You can be very intense and do nothing but shooting practice after shooting practice - that is not the problem," he considered. "We are having attempts on goal and no-one in the world can tell me that Defoe won't get goals or the other strikers, they will come. We have just got to wait for it to happen.
"The key is to relax and not make a big issue of it. I could go back four or five games and we were scoring goals galore and getting criticised for conceding goals.
"I talk about quirks in the game. We appear to have locked the back door - although not well enough as we are still letting in a goal and losing - but goals at the other end will come."
