Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
It's been quite a time recently for our Academy goalkeepers with Nicky Eyre on the bench in the Premier League for the first time against Crystal Palace and Tommy Forecast our FA Youth Cup hero at Anfield.
Here, coach Perry Suckling runs the rule over both Nicky, Tommy and our highly-rated Under-16 goalkeeper David Button.
Perry: "Nick's a very good goalkeeper. Over the last few years he's been as consistent as anyone else but he's now a third year trainee and he needs to be playing for the reserves. He's played three or four games for Clive Allen and done well in those games, I've seen most of them. The problem he has is that he has Radek Cerny, Robert Burch, Marton Fulop and Paul Robinson - suddenly there are four goalkeepers and only two teams to play for. You have to perform otherwise you fall further down the ladder. It's a hard year and Tommy Forecast will find the same if he gets his next contract. It's character building and they just need to come through it - if they do, they are set up."
Perry: "Tommy's done extremely well this season. He's still a young man and has a lot of physical attributes, he's six foot two, very broad and he's worked hard. He still has a lot of work to do. Physically he still needs to develop. Technically he's done alright, his hands are good and his kicking has been okay. He plays in a good team and the defence help him out a lot. It's a big year for him because his contract is up at the of the season so he needs to do well to push up to train with Hans and Paul Robinson. He's made good progress, come on a lot and proved a lot of doubters wrong, so full marks to him.
Perry: "David is one of the most talented keepers in the country. He's an Under-16, still at school but he's already been in our Under-18 squad. He plays for England a year above himself at Under-17. He has all the hallmarks of becoming a great goalkeeper. He's six foot four already so you know he will be big enough. His main asset is his ability with his feet, the backpass is never going to be a problem for him, he's two-footed and hits the ball three-quarters the length of the field. He can play and pass as well as a midfielder. He's works hard and like all young goalkeepers, they have to do that because it's a position where if you think you've made it, you will go backwards. The good thing about this club is that all the keepers work hard together, they are all friends but they also know that if
they don't perform the guy behind will take his shirt.
