*Heathy Schools Programme
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
As a partner in Enfield's Healthy School Programme, Football in the Community continues to work well with Enfield Education. Our FITC scheme is currently working on two projects, The Maths Trail and Fit for Sport.
The Maths Trail was initially designed as a project to raise standards in numeracy and to improve the levels of physical fitness.
Sandra Bourne, PSHE/Citizenship Strategy Manager, School Improvement Service says: "The scheme is increasingly popular with our primary schools and we currently have more than 2,000 children in 24 schools participating, it is one of our most popular projects with our primary schools."
The schools work on planned numeracy activities and physical activity targets while Tottenham Hotspur Football in the Community provide five weeks of high-level football coaching. The highlight of the project is a visit to White Hart Lane to complete the Maths trail.
Fit For Sport is aimed at secondary school pupils who are identified by their schools as being in need of additional support. A total of 20 young people aged 15-16 participate in a six week, two-hour programme based at White Hart Lane.
The first hour is spent with the pupils engaged in physical activity led by qualified coaches from Tottenham Hotspur FC, while the second hour is classroom based and the pupils follow a programme of Personal, Social Health Education.
The programme includes Drug Education, Alcohol Education, Drugs in Sport, Healthy Eating for Sport, Lifestyle Choices and Consequences. It is delivered by a variety of consultants organised by PSHE Team, Enfield School Improvement Service. The pupils attend for six weeks and keep a folder of the work, which is used back in school to validate their time.
