*Happy Carrick

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

If some recent reporting is to be believed, it would be easy to imagine that Michael Carrick has endured something of a torturous time since he became a Spurs player. The midfielder insists this has certainly not been the case.

Michael checked in ahead of the closure of the August transfer window and, given the team's unbeaten beginning to the season and his own lack of match practice, he didn't immediately break into the side. He then suffered knee and ankle injuries that delayed his introduction before several substitute appearances were followed by him making an impressive mark in the centre of our midfield in the last two games.

The recruit from West Ham has had to be patient in waiting for his opportunity to shine but he firmly denies he went through an unhappy period at the club.

"No, it is not the case!" he insisted this week at Spurs Lodge. "As I've been trying to tell people for the past couple of weeks, I have really enjoyed my time here so far. It is obviously better now I have played a few times but it has been good, I've been working hard and getting on well with all the boys.

"I just had to be a little bit patient and, hopefully, it has turned out alright.

"I was here a couple of weeks, got injured and was out for three weeks. It is one of those things that happened and I've bounced back from that and hopefully now we can start getting a few wins under our belts."

Michael stated when he signed on that one of the attractions of joining was the fierce competition for places in the middle of the park.

"I was under absolutely no illusions at all when I signed. At the time I said that there are very good players here and it would not be easy to get in the team - that proved to be the case.

"When lads have played well you've got to wait your turn and that's what I've done. Now it is up to me to try and keep my place in the team and if I don't do that somebody will be ready to step in my shoes.

"It's good, you've got to be on your toes."

One thing Michael does concede to being a concern is our current Premiership form, something the team hopes to remedy next time out against Aston Villa on Monday.

"It's a bit frustrating, the cup form is going alright but the league form has dipped a bit. We're not playing too bad, we finished strongly against Charlton and to score four against Arsenal and come away with nothing is disappointing.

"We've got move on and next week is big for us. It is a case of gelling together well and performing on the day. We've shown in spells that we've got it and we've got to convert that into wins."
