Star Man - Wayne Bridge

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

While talk of star men at Southampton tends to centre on the undoubted talents of players like Matthew Le Tissier, James Beattie and Marian Pahars, a pretty much unsung left-sided player is carving out a not-insignificant reputation for himself.

Wayne Bridge is a name the English football public will surely become familiar with in the coming seasons. Glenn Hoddle was said to be an admirer during his spell at the South Coast club — a suggestion he is happy to confirm.

Bridge placed himself in the public eye during international week, playing a starring role for David Platt’s England under-21 side in their victories over Germany and Albania.

His old master has only positive things to say about his former pupil.

“He’s progressing lovely from when I first got there,” said Glenn. “I think back to what he was like when I first arrived at Southampton, he was pretty shy, pretty within, but had lots of talent.

“He learnt ever so quickly. I’ve got to give him credit, he listened and listened to the coaching staff and took in all the aspects of the game. Within six months he came on very, very quickly.

“I was delighted to see him get into the England under-21s and I think he has got a bright future. He is a good player and he can only get better.”
