Standards high - Tom

Tom Carroll believes the Premier League can be unforgiving at times – but is determined to make his mark at the top level.
The central midfielder, who competed at the European Under-21 Championships with England last month, spent the 2014-15 campaign on loan at Swansea City.
He made 13 top flight appearances for the Welsh side, having previously appeared as a substitute for us on seven occasions in the Premier League.
A 2-1 win against Arsenal and a fine performance against Manchester City – even though the Swans were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline – were among the highlights of Tom’s loan spell last term.
But a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea reinforced the notion of needing to be at the top of your game every day to the 23-year-old.
“In the Premier League you’ll come up against some of the best players in the world and if you have an off-day against them and the top clubs they’ll punish you,” he said.
“I think we did well in some of the games against the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City last season, but obviously we had an off-day against Chelsea and that’s when you realise how good the standard is.
“My aim is to try to establish myself more in the Premier League so I’ll be working hard next season with that goal in mind.”
