Paul Stalteri admits it's been a season of frustration after being forced out of action by a series of of injuries. The latest problem ruled the full-back out of our UEFA Cup quarter-final second leg against Sevilla and Sunday’s tip to Wigan, although he remains hopeful of being available for the big one against Arsenal in the Barclays Premiership at the Lane on Saturday.

"It’s a problem at the top of my thigh that happened in a training session, just out of nothing," reported the Canadian international, a model of consistency both in terms of performances and games played in his last six seasons, five of those at Werder Bremen before joining us in July 2005.

"I’ve had more injuries this season than the rest of my career combined," he added. "I’ve never missed games before and this is the only season I’ve had to pull myself out of games due to injury.

"It’s been really frustrating and I thought I was over it in the last couple of months, I’ve felt really fit. I’m still hopeful for Saturday though."

Paul feels Saturday’s derby will be ‘something special’. "Any game against Arsenal is the biggest of the season and if the fans match what they did for Sevilla last week it will be a fantastic atmosphere again," he added.

"I’m sure it will be a great encounter and hopefully this time we’ll come out on top.

"It’s so important because after Saturday, we’ve two away games and you don’t really want to drop points at home. Portsmouth and Reading have responded in the last couple of weeks and even though the UEFA position is now down to seventh, I think we’ll need at least nine points."
