Spurs X1 win opener
Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).
Goals from Mark Yeates, Lee Barnard and an own goal saw a Spurs X1 side to a 3-2 victory over Northwood on Wednesday evening.
What was effectively a reserve side overcame the Ryman Premier League outfit in a testimonial match for long-serving midfielder Chris Gell - who scored from a generous - not to mention dubious - penalty award late on.
Yeates gave Colin Calderwood's young team the lead after just six minutes, shooting home after creating the chance himself from the edge of the area.
However, the home side hit back on 18 minutes with a headed goal from a corner, but then excellent Barnard restored the lead with a cool finish after 35 minutes.
Spurs took control of the game from then on in on a poor pitch and the lead was extended with a own goal on the hour before Northwood reduced the deficit with a penalty shortly afterwards.
Team: Eyre, Doherty, Foster, O'Donoghue, Black (McKie 70), Barnett, Hughes (Price 70), Bowditch, Yeates, Slabber (Jackson 75), Barnard. Sub not used: Henry.
