Spurs win National Schools Area Final

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

On Thursday 12 February 2004, Broadwater Farm School represented Tottenham Hotspur Football Club in the Adidas Under 11's 6-a-side Area final in Southend.

The Spurs team from Broadwater Farm School triumphed over Gillingham in the final to become winners and remained unbeaten in this year's Kellogg's Frosties Cup.

This year's annual National Six-s-Side competition organised by Football in the Community has been sponsored by Kellogg's Frosties. It involves school teams representing other Community Schemes including: Ipswich Town, West Ham Utd, Millwall, Charlton Athletic, and Norwich City. There has, once again been a gr-r-reat competition and a number of new schools have taken part for the first time

Broadwater Farm advanced through the group stage finishing second behind Charlton Athletic, having drawn 2 and won 2. They went on to beat Southend Utd in the Semi final and then won the overall final against Gillingham 2-1.

Sarah Kessack, Tottenham Hotspur Community Area Co-ordinator, accompanied the team on the day. Sarah was very pleased with the results, she said about the day:

"The boys, after having a nervous start played some impressive football winning their last two group stage matches 3-0 and 4-0, their performance and behaviour on the day was excellent and a credit to their school."

Winning the area final now means the Spurs team will go on to compete against other Area finalists in the Southern Regional Final. It will take place on 11th March at Swindon Town Football Club.

Tuesday 10 February 2004 saw the final of the girls under thirteen 6 a-side competition at White Hart Lane.

The eventual winners on the day were Sheredes School, Hoddesdon who beat opposition from a number of schools in the Haringey, Cheshunt, Potters Bar and Barnet areas.

Sheredes School will now go on to represent Tottenham Hotspur Football Club in the Girls Area final against the other Community teams.

Sarah looks forward to more success for Spurs in the Area Community Cup: "The standard of the tournament was excellent and we have high hopes for the Sheredes in the area finals."
