Spurs weekend preview - Cup matches galore!
Thu 05 January 2017, 17:14|Tottenham Hotspur
It's set to be another busy weekend of action across the Club with several cup matches being played, as well as a clash with Chelsea in the Premier League 2. Here's a run-down of who is playing where and when...
First team
SPURS v ASTON VILLA
Emirates FA Cup, third round
Sunday, January 8, 2017
White Hart Lane, 4pm
Regular opponents for us until their relegation at the end of last season, Aston Villa come to White Hart Lane on Sunday with a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup at stake.
Mid-table in the Championship, they've had a mixed bag of results since Christmas, beating Burton Albion 2-1 on Boxing Day, drawing 1-1 with Leeds on December 29 and then going down 1-0 at Cardiff City on Monday.
Now managed by Steve Bruce, they have two familiar faces on their coaching staff in the form of ex-Spurs players Colin Calderwood and Stephen Clemence, who serve Bruce as assistant manager and first team coach respectively.
Development squad
SPURS v CHELSEA
Premier League 2
Friday, January 6, 2017
Hotspur Way, 12.05pm
After picking up a vital victory over Reading in their last outing in the Premier League 2 before Christmas, Ugo Ehiogu's charges will be looking to put some distance between themselves and the drop zone when hosting Chelsea at our Hotspur Way training base on Friday lunchtime.
We went down 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in this competition in September but, with the Blues having suffered back-to-back home defeats to Swansea City and Dinamo Zagreb in the Premier League International Cup since beating Manchester United 3-1 in their most recent Premier League 2 outing in December, we'll be looking to get the better of our London rivals this time around.
You'll be able to follow the match with live updates on our Twitter account, @SpursOfficial.
Spurs Ladies
SPURS LADIES v GILLINGHAM LADIES
SSE Women's FA Cup, second round
Sunday, January 8, 2017
Cheshunt FC, 1pm
Back in action following a brief break, Spurs Ladies have a tough start to 2017 as they resume SSE Women's FA Cup duties by hosting a Gillingham side which hammered Southampton 7-1 in the last round.
Gills forward Fliss Gibbons won the Player of the Round award after netting four goals against the Saints but, no strangers to thumping wins themselves this term, Karen Hills’ players will still be confident of getting a result and prolonging their unbeaten run, which stretches all the way back to the beginning of 2016-17.
As always, we'll have the latest from the Ladies side here on tottenhamhotspur.com early next week.
Under-18s
QUEENS PARK RANGERS v SPURS
FA Youth Cup, fourth round
Tuesday, January 10, 2017
Loftus Road, 7pm
Without a game this weekend due to the postponement of the scheduled Under-18 Premier League trip to Aston Villa, our youngsters return to action in the FA Youth Cup away to Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday night.
Our Under-18s got the better of QPR in a pre-season friendly at our Training Centre back in July, winning 3-0 through goals from Reo Griffiths, Keanan Bennetts and Aramide Oteh.
We notched a remarkable 10-1 victory over Stevenage in the third round, while QPR won 3-1 at Swindon Town.
