Spurs vs West Ham U18s - John's preview
11 October 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Our Under-18s face their first London derby of the season tomorrow (Saturday) morning, hosting West Ham United at the Training Centre.
International week has brought a change to the usual routine for the lads, as they’ve been integrated with a number of first team players in training.
And Academy Manager John McDermott believes the chance for the boys to hone their skills in the presence of established Premier League players is a marvellous opportunity.
“It’s been another really good week this week,” said John as he anticipates tomorrow’s match with the Hammers, our Under-18s’ first meeting with another side from the Capital this term.
“The international break always brings the opportunity for our young players to train with some of the first teamers, and it’s a fantastic experience for our players. I see it as a huge positive.”
The Under-18s made it seven wins out of seven last weekend as they beat Norwich City 4-2, and as the lads bid to extend their fantastic start to the campaign tomorrow, John says the strength in depth of our squad will once again come into play.
“We had another midweek game against Brighton this week, to ensure that all our boys are getting regular competitive match play, and I was really pleased with the way it went,” he added.
“I’ve got every confidence in whoever plays on Saturday, and I expect them to seize their opportunity.”
