Mauricio Pochettino’s message is again loud and clear ahead of Sunday’s noon derby showdown against West Ham at White Hart Lane.
“We need to believe, to be focused and forget everything else, forget Fiorentina, forget the final and just focus on this game.”
Sunday represents the second of a key six-game schedule in just 17 days taking in two legs of the Europa League Round of 32 against Fiorentina, two derbies in the Premier League and, of course, the Capital One Cup Final against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday week, March 1.
West Ham sit eighth in the Premier League and have won only two of their last 10 in the Premier League, however, that record also shows just one loss in the last six.
“It’s another tough game, another derby and an important three points to play for,” said Mauricio. “It’s an opportunity for us but we need to be focused.”
One thing we can expect is a reaction after the Hammers lost 4-0 at West Brom in the FA Cup last weekend.
“This is a different competition but always when a team has a defeat like that it’s difficult,” added Mauricio. “We expect a tough game. They are a good team and it’s a derby as well, but we’ll be ready.”
