Spurs vs West Ham - Andros targets Wembley
18 December 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Andros Townsend hopes we can take another stride towards a Wembley final when we host West Ham United in the Capital One Cup.
We take on the Hammers at White Hart Lane for the second time this season tonight as one of just six remaining teams in the competition after last night’s first two quarter-final matches.
Victory against Sam Allardyce’s men will put us into the two-legged semi-finals – tantalisingly close to a showpiece final at the national stadium.
“We’re three games from Wembley so we know we’re close,” insisted our England international winger. “We just need to get the job done tonight and then a two-legged tie anybody could win.
“(If we can win) we’re a step closer to where we want to be. We really want to win some silverware this season and I think the Capital One Cup is a great place to start.”
Andros also spoke of the motivation of the players to respond not only to Sunday’s setback against Liverpool, but also to the 3-0 Premier League defeat we suffered at the hands of the Hammers back in October.
“Whatever team they come with will be well prepared,” said the 22-year-old. “We’ve done some training on it, we’ll be well prepared and hopefully we can get the win.
“(We want to win) not only due to the disappointment on Sunday. We also need to put things right from when they came and beat us in the league, so the fans need to come and get behind us and hopefully we can put on a good show and qualify for the semi-finals.”
