Spurs vs Tromso IL - Andre's preview

19 September 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

Andre Villas-Boas is satisfied with our preparations ahead of Thursday night’s Europa League Group Stage opener against Tromso IL – but is wary of the threat posed by the Norwegians after their impressive victory at the weekend.

Tromso, battling to get away from the lower reaches of the Norwegian top flight - known as Tippeligaen - scalped league leaders Rosenborg 1-0 on Sunday, meaning they arrive at the Lane full of confidence.

And although our Head Coach has heeded the warning sent out by that result, he is confident that we are ready to meet the challenges posed by Scandinavian side.

“We feel prepared for the game,” Andre insisted. “We’ve scouted them like any other team.  Their last game against Rosenborg is a good warning for us. Tromso are struggling for survival in their league but they have just beaten the leaders comfortably, they played really well and had the better chances.”

Andre added that he does not intend to overlook the threat posed by Tromso’s attack just because the club was knocked out of the Europa League in the Play-Off Round by Besiktas, only to be reinstated following their opponents’ exclusion from the competition.

“They are back in the Europa League following Besiktas’ disqualification but in the end, the games against Besiktas were tight,” said Andre. “They are a team with good organisation, fight a lot to win back the ball, and have good energy levels. They have already played 20-odd games in the league, so it’s a difficult game for us.”

Andre has also stressed the importance of making home advantage count against Tromso - with a tough away game against Anzhi Makhachkala next on our European agenda.

"It’s our first home game and everyone wants to win to put themselves in a good position (in the group) and we’d like to do the same,” Andre added. “We have a tough trip to Anzhi next, so the focus is getting three points now.”
