Spurs vs Saints U18s - Kieran's preview

Fri 21 November 2014, 15:14|Tottenham Hotspur

Our Under-18s kick off a hectic spell of fixtures with a return to familiar territory to oppose Southampton on Saturday.

Without a home game in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League for almost a month, we take on the Saints at the Training Centre at 12pm having drawn 1-1 in the corresponding fixture back in August.

We’re then swiftly back in action on Wednesday as West Ham visit us in a re-arranged league game, with Under-18s Coach Kieran McKenna confirming the players are braced for a very busy period in the lead-up to Christmas.

“We had no game last weekend so everyone’s looking forward to getting back into match action,” said Kieran, who shared the disappointment of the players at the abandonment of the last game at West Bromwich Albion due to a waterlogged pitch a fortnight ago.

“We’ve got a really busy spell coming up now with three Under-18s games in the next seven days, two Under-21s games on the way, plus the FA Youth Cup and our trip to Florida, so this weekend is really the start of an intense six-week period of games.

“Southampton generally come here and try to press the ball and work hard. They’re well organised so it’ll be a good test.

“I thought it was a good game when we played them earlier in the season, but the boys have had plenty of training under their belts now and are ready for a game so we’re looking forward to it.”
