Spurs vs Norwich - Wolf at the door!
13 September 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Andre Villas-Boas and Jan Vertonghen are well aware of the threat of Norwich's big-name summer signing Ricky van Wolfswinkel.
The striker made his name in Dutch football with 34 goals in 97 matches in the Eredivisie for Vitesse and then Utrecht before a switch to Portugal and Sporting Lisbon, where he netted 45 times in 87 matches.
Capped at senior level by Holland, van Wolfswinkel scored on his debut for Norwich in the Canaries' 2-2 draw against Everton.
Andre said: "I know him well from Sporting Lisbon and from watching the Portuguese League.
"He’s a very agile player, strong in the air, had wonderful years in Dutch football and deservedly arrives in the Premier League now.
"He will definitely be one of Norwich’s strengths. He’s a different player to Grant Holt but one who offers great mobility, great positional sense and someone our central defenders will have to be aware of."
Jan is looking forward to the challenge. "I played a few games against him when I was at Ajax and he’s a typical goalscorer.
"Maybe you could compare him to Roberto Soldado, he’s always there, his movement in front of the goal is unbelievable. I’m looking forward to seeing him again."
Jan echoed the mood in the squad and a determination to return to winning ways.
"We didn’t beat Norwich last season and they kicked us out of the (Capital One) Cup as well," he said.
"They are strong and a difficult team to beat. They’ve bought some good players, so it will be a tough game for us. After the Arsenal game, we want to bounce back. We want to show our fans what we’re capable of."
