Spurs vs FC Sheriff - Harry salutes JD
07 November 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
Harry Kane says he’s relishing the chance to link up with Jermain Defoe in our squad as we get ready to host FC Sheriff at the Lane this evening.
Young striker Harry – who has today learned he’s back in the England Under-21 squad for this month’s Euro qualifiers – has impressed whenever he’s got his chance in Andre Villas-Boas’ side this season.
And after playing alongside JD for an extended period during last week’s Capital One Cup win over Hull City, Harry says the chance to hone his craft in the company of a seasoned goalscoring professional such as Jermain is one he simply cannot refuse.
“I’ve learned a lot from him. He’s such a natural goalscorer, loves to score goals and as a fellow striker, you try to emulate that,” said 20-year-old Harry, who has made five first team appearances for us so far this term.
“That’s what my game is about, trying to score goals and if I can get as many as Jermain, it won’t be a bad career.”
This evening sees FC Sheriff visit White Hart Lane for a Europa League encounter.
And after JD’s goal in the reverse fixture in Moldova a fortnight ago, one more goal for the England international marksman would see him set a new club goalscoring record in Europe – he’s currently level with Martin Chivers on 22 goals.
Harry for one would love to see JD break new ground in front of our own fans, while at the same time remaining wary of the threat posed by tonight’s visitors: “He’s looking forward to breaking the record, and so he should be!
“Jermain is a great striker and loves to score goals, so I’m sure he’s itching to get out there, break the record and make history.
“Sheriff are a good team and showed that in the last game, but if we play to our capabilities and put in a professional performance we should get the job done.
“They’ll have nothing to lose and will come at us and look to win.”
