Spurs vs FC Sheriff - facts and stats
07 November 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
A few facts and statistics ahead of tonight's Europa League, Group K fixture against Moldova champions FC Sheriff at the Lane.
We first met FC Sheriff a fortnight ago when goals from Jan Vertonghen and Jermain Defoe saw us home 2-0 at Sheriff Stadium, Tiraspol. That made it three wins in three for us in Group K. Sheriff drew their other matches against Anji and Tromso.
Record breaker? If Jermain Defoe scores tonight, he will overtake Martin Chivers (22) and become our all-time record goalscorer in Europe with 23 goals.
Keeping it clean - If we keep a clean sheet tonight, it will be our sixth on the trot, matching our best run from the 1971-72 UEFA Cup-winning campaign when we kept clean sheets against IBK Keflavik (H), Nantes (H & A), Rapid Bucharest (H & A) and U T Arad (A).
Sheriff's form - Sheriff have won both of their domestic matches since we met in Tiraspol on October 24 - a 3-0 win against Veris and 3-2 against Rapid Chisinau. They top the table again with 11 wins and just one defeat in 14 matches. They have the best attack (41 goals) and best defence (eight conceded) in the league.
Sheriff in Europe - Sheriff have already played nine games in Europe this season, kicking-off in Champions League qualifying back in July. They have yet to win an away game in the group stages of the Europa League, but picked up a draw in Tromso last month.
Our European form - We've only lost one of our last 18 matches in the Europa League - Inter away last season. We've won five on the trot so far in this campaign and that's the best since eight in a row in the UEFA Cup in 2006-07.
Home sweet home - We're unbeaten in our last eight home matches in the Europa League (six wins, two draws) and we've lost just one of our last 12 at home.
On target - We've scored in each of our last 12 matches in the Europa League and only failed to score twice in our last 19 in the competition - both against Lazio last season.
Previous Moldovan encounters at WHL - We've only faced one other Moldovan team at the Lane, a 3-0 win against Zimbru Chisinau in the UEFA Cup on September 16, 1999. Oyvind Leonhardsen, Chris Perry and Tim Sherwood were on target.
Tough on the road - Sheriff have yet to win in 12 away matches in the UEFA Cup/Europa League, although their three most recent away fixtures have ended in draws.
100 per cent - We are one of five teams with a 100 per cent record in this season's Europa League campaign with Fiorentina, Eintracht Frankfurt, Ludogrets Razgrad and Salzburg. Like us, Eintracht Frankfurt, Ludogrets Razgrad are yet to concede a goal.
By the book - We have the best disciplinary record in the group stage of the competition with just one yellow card to date.
Top scorers - Jermain Defoe and Salzburg's Jonatan Soriano are currently joint-top scorers in this season's group stage on four goals.
Vlad happy - Vlad Chiriches has yet to concede a goal in the six matches he's started for us and he's unbeaten in his seven Spurs appearances.
Younes on fire - Younes Kaboul has lost just one of his 14 European matches for us and we're unbeaten in the last 12 European matches he's featured in. We haven't conceded a goal in the last nine European games he's featured in.
