Spurs vs Chelsea U18s - John's preview
18 October 2013|Tottenham Hotspur
John McDermott says our Under-18s are heading into Saturday’s London derby against Chelsea in good spirits as they look to make a quick return to winning ways.
The lads suffered their first defeat of the campaign last weekend as West Ham United claimed a late goal to run out 3-2 winners.
But Academy Manager John has reiterated his belief in the lads’ abilities, and expects Saturday lunchtime’s game at the Training Centre to be an entertaining spectacle.
“We’ve had a typical week and we’ve looked sharp,” enthused John. “Often when you look at a game on video the day after, you’re rarely as good as you think you are and often you’re not as bad, and maybe my observations last week were a little bit harsh in that we did play some good football against West Ham, but we still need to be more clinical.
“We go into this game in good spirits looking forward to the game. We always have very, very good games against Chelsea and I think it will be a good game to play in, and a good game to watch."
John said the continued participation of some of our lads in international matches means there could be some rotation in the side again this week.
“It’s been quite a mixed week,” he went on. “We’ve had three boys go out to Bilbao and do quite well with the Development Squad, so that was good.
“We’ve had Will Miller back from playing for England and doing really well, we’ve got Filip Lesniak out at the World Cup, and Josh Onomah goes away with England, but obviously Chelsea will be in the same boat as they’re going to have international players as well.
“So I’m sure both sides tomorrow will probably play an 11 that maybe hasn’t started before, but that’s no big thing.”
