Spurs vs Chelsea - Naughton's preview

26 September 2013|Tottenham Hotspur

Kyle Naughton believes the chance to take early-season points off our close rivals can be of real benefit come the end of the campaign.

We face a massive London derby against Chelsea at the Lane on Saturday lunchtime – taking on a side who, like ourselves, are jockeying for position in the upper reaches of the embryonic Premier League standings.

And full-back Kyle, who played 90 minutes on the left side of our defence in last week’s 1-0 victory at Cardiff, reckons it’s key that we set our stall out well against the Blues, claiming the squad are feeling confident in the lead-up to the game.

“All the lads are up for every game this season, especially a game like this where if you can get a point, or even three points, against a team like this, it always counts towards the end of the season,” said the 24-year-old.

“Against one of the top sides it’s always nice to aim for three points. Everyone’s looking forward to it, it’s been a good build up and I’m sure it will be a good game.”

Kyle said he’s also encouraged to see so many quality defensive players competing for places in our squad – particularly as we’re currently battling on so many fronts with Premier League, Europa League and Capital One Cup campaigns raging on, not to mention the FA Cup campaign that’s still to come.

“There’s so many games coming thick and fast so it’s important to have quite a few defenders,” he added. “We’ve got a few injuries but we have got players to fill in the gaps while the players are injured. We have got a strong team, we’ve even got midfielders that might be able to drop into the defence if needed.”
