Spurs vs Benfica - betting preview with Betfred
Thu 13 March 2014, 09:45|Tottenham Hotspur
A superb second half in their second leg against Dnipro helped Spurs progress to the Last 16 of the UEFA Europa League. Meanwhile, Benfica enjoyed a more comfortable progression as they won at home and away against PAOK.
Spurs have kept four clean sheets in their last five home games in the Barclays Premier League and they’ve not been beaten at home in Europe in 11 games. The last 10 of these matches have all had at least three goals as Spurs have scored at least three goals on their own on seven occasions.
Benfica are set to win a first Portuguese title since 2010 having been unbeaten since an opening day defeat. They’ve not scored more than twice in their last nine league games but have conceded just once in that time and will probably look to keep this first leg tight. They have also enjoyed some success against English clubs in recent years having knocked Manchester United out of the UEFA Champions League at the group stages in both 2005/06 and 2011/12, while they’ve won four of seven Europa League matches against English teams since 2009/10.
However, more generally, English teams have won 18 and lost only two of 27 European meetings with Portuguese sides since 2006/07 and Spurs look a decent price at 5/4 to take an advantage into the second leg.
