Spurs vs Asteras - Mauricio's preview

Thu 23 October 2014, 14:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino has full respect for Asteras Tripolis but only has eyes for a victory in tonight’s Europa League Group C clash at the Lane.

Our back-to-back matches against the Greek side could now prove pivotal in Group C as Asteras sit proudly on top with four points from two games so far.

In fact, Asteras have already played eight times in Europe after kicking-off their campaign in July. They dispatched of Mainz and Maccabi Tel-Aviv on the way to the group stages and have started impressively.

Asteras’ rapid rise from the lower tiers of Greek football has seen them finish sixth, third and fifth in the last three seasons in the Greek Superleague and finish runners-up in the Greek Cup to Olympiacos in 2013.

“Asteras is a very good team, a young team, they won their last game against Partizan, drew against Besiktas and we need to be focused,” said Mauricio.

“They try to play from the back and they have a good philosophy on the pitch. They have a lot of Argentine players, seven, and they’ve made a good start

“It’s a very important game because we need the points at home.

“All games in the Europa League are difficult. The group is very competitive and the most important thing is that we’re ready to play.”

We kick-off at 8.05pm tonight.
