Spurs v Villa U18s - Kieran's preview
15 April 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Kieran McKenna wants our Under-18s to keep up their impressive home form when we host Aston Villa in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League on Saturday.
Our last three Under-18s matches at the Training Centre have seen a whopping 15 goals scored and with Villa visiting us for our penultimate game of the league season – the last match taking place at Arsenal in a fortnight’s time – Under-18s Coach Kieran is keen to see the boys finish off their home programme with a flourish.
“This is the last game on our home pitch – in the last two games we’ve scored 11 goals and it’s 15 in three if you look further back so we want to finish on that sort of run,” he said.
“The two games against Villa so far this season have been excellent. We played ever so well up there but only managed to get a 2-2 draw when we probably deserved more and in the home game, attacking-wise, it was a very good performance although we narrowly lost out 3-2.
“We know Villa will always be a good test with the way they come and set up against us. It’s always a challenge and it’s a game that we’re looking forward to.
“Hopefully though, as we said, we’ll see more good work on our home pitch with the lads scoring goals and putting in good performances. Again, we’ll have a few of the Under-16s getting their opportunities at this level – they’ll obviously be looking to make a mark for next year and the current first years will be looking to finish strongly and lay down a marker as part of the group that will make up most of the team for next season.”
Kick-off at the Training Centre on Saturday is at 12noon. Follow us on Twitter @SpursOfficial for live updates.
