Spurs v Villa - opposing manager's view

07 January 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has labelled us “one of the best teams in Europe” ahead of Sunday's FA Cup third round tie at White Hart Lane.

We take on Villa, currently mid-table in the Championship following relegation for the first time in the Premier League era last season, in what will be our first foray into the world-renowned competition this term.

Experienced former Birmingham City, Sunderland and Hull boss Bruce took charge at Villa Park in October and he believes his team has a big task ahead of them if they want to progress to round four.

“We could have wished for an easier draw – it’s a very difficult tie,” said the 56-year-old, who has ex-Spurs players Colin Calderwood and Stephen Clemence working on his coaching staff.

“The FA Cup gives you a chance to win something and we can win five games and get there (to the final) but it’s made all the harder because the first match is against one of the best teams in Europe at their own ground.

“It’s a difficult challenge but we will try our utmost to get through to the next round.

“We all know that a day out at Wembley is fantastic for the club – and the supporters, of course.”
