Spurs v Villa - back in time
31 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Villa were the opponents on one of the key dates in our history.
September 24, 1960 and the teams met in the old First Division at White Hart Lane.
A crowd of over 61,000 were treated to another thrilling performance as goals from John White (2), Les Allen, Terry Dyson, Dave Mackay and Bobby Smith secured a record 10th successive victory from the start of the season.
The photograph at the top of the page shows the team celebrating the 10th win with Bill Nicholson in a bowler hat and vice-chairman Fred Wale (far right).
Tens wins out of 10 soon became 11 out of 11 but that's where it ended as Manchester City held us to a 1-1 in match 12.
But Bill's all-conquering team had well and truly laid the foundations for our second league title - and the famous double would be completed in the FA Cup Final against Leicester City in May, 1961.
Below: How the newspapers reported our record 10th straight win
Our proud record of 11 straight wins from the start of a season remains and has yet to be toppled by a team in one of the major leagues across Europe.
Indeed, with perfect timing, German giants Bayern Munich were the latest team to reach 10 out of 10 in the Bundesliga but they were held to a goalless draw at Eintracht Frankfurt in game 11 on Friday night.
