Spurs v Swansea - Mauricio's preview

27 February 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

It's seems an age since we celebrated Christian Eriksen's winner at Manchester City - and Mauricio Pochettino says the players are 'motivated and excited' for Sunday's return to Premier League action against Swansea.

We've toppled Fiorentina 4-1 over two legs in the Europa League and lost out in the FA Cup to Palace in the 13 days since that win at the Etihad - the day we stretched our winning run to five in the Premier League and moved up to second.

"We’re in a position we can enjoy and we have to keeping working hard and winning games to stay in this position," said Mauricio. "The players will arrive in good condition and be ready to compete again."

It was pointed out to Mauricio that the team might have to show patience and maturity again - just like they did in the recent 1-0 win against Watford at the Lane.

"Yes, it’s important," he said. "We need to show maturity, to perform well and we’re ready.

"I’ve said the same all season, we’re the youngest squad in the Premier League but we’ve improved and learned a lot.

"This is the capacity of the players because they are very clever and want to achieve big things. We have a good mix in the squad of senior players and younger players and we need to continue working hard."

So now we face a Swans' side managed by Francesco Guidolin hovering above the danger zone and with two wins in their last 10 - although they came recently, back-to-back against Watford and Everton in Janaury.

The Swans used to be managed by Paulo Sousa, now in charge of Fiorentina, so might this game be similar with Swansea still renowned for their passing style?

"Yes, maybe, but Swansea have a different manager now but you know, for us, it’s important how we play. We have set out our principles and the way we want to play. It’s true, we need to be careful of different things from Swansea but we will focus on our jobs."
