Spurs v Sunderland - Mauricio's preview
15 January 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino is confident the players will respond positively to Wednesday’s loss against Leicester when we face Sunderland on Saturday – just like they did after our last defeat.
That reverse came as a shock to the system on December 13 - the players followed it with three wins on the trot against Southampton, Norwich and Watford before drawing at Everton.
We face Sunderland, Palace and then Norwich and Watford again over the coming weeks.
“We are sure the reaction will be good,” said Mauricio. “We’re all disappointed with the result (against Leicester) but in football, this can happen over the course of the season, good and bad, lucky and unlucky.
“I think the group is strong in its mentality and we need to be ready to compete on Saturday.”
Mauricio on still being fourth after 21 games, despite that loss…
“Yes, but that’s not important. Football is about winning games and now we have to win again. We need to be positive and at the same time, realistic. We lost the game because we made some mistakes. It’s important to improve, to recognise those mistakes and try to do better in the next game.”

Mauricio on Sunderland…
“All the games are very difficult in the Premier League and Sunderland will be no different. It’s always all about us. We need to keep working and be ready to compete.”
Mauricio on Jermain Defoe…
“He is a great player, we know him well but as I said, it’s about us, not the opponent. We have to be ready and we will be ready for Saturday.”
