Spurs v Saints U18s - Kieran's preview
20 November 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
Kieran McKenna is looking for top performances from our Under-18s players in Saturday’s game against Southampton, with a series of cup games on the horizon.
We welcome the Saints to our Training Centre for a Barclays Under-18 Premier League clash as a busy period of fixtures gets underway in earnest.
With our FA Youth Cup third round tie against Rotherham United fast approaching, plus the annual IMG Cup in Florida to come before Christmas, Under-18s Coach Kieran says our clash with Southampton represents an ideal platform for the players to show what they can do, with places in the team for the forthcoming cup matches very much up for grabs.
“We’re coming into a busy spell now where we’ve got league games, the FA Youth Cup in under two weeks’ time and the IMG Cup out in Florida where we’ll be looking to retain the title which we won last year, so the boys will be looking to put on a good performance on Saturday – as a group, but also individually to stake a claim for some of the tournament games coming up,” he said.
“Southampton will be a good test. We played them early in the season and performed really well down there in what was one of our better performances of the campaign, so we’re looking forward to hosting them on Saturday.
“Some of our boys have been away with England Under-17s this week so that opens up spots for some of the other players to come in and stake a claim. There’s plenty to play for in terms of trying to get in the team, but of course every game is important at this level in terms of the players’ careers so we’re looking for good performances across the board against Southampton.”
Kick-off on Saturday is at 11.30am. Follow us on Twitter @SpursOfficial for live updates.
