Spurs v Saints - Mauricio's preview
18 March 2017|Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino says the challenge is to keep playing well as we prepare for our fourth consecutive Sunday home game against Southampton (March 19).
We’ve enjoyed a fine run of form at White Hart Lane this season and, over the last three games in N17, have racked up 13 goals thanks to Premier League wins over Stoke City (4-0) and Everton (3-2), coupled with last week’s 6-0 thrashing of Millwall to reach the FA Cup semi-finals.
Now, with his former club in town, Mauricio wants more of the same.
“It’s always fantastic when we play in front of our fans,” he said.
“It’s very good to play at White Hart Lane but every game is a challenge for us to keep our run, to keep playing well.
“We know that Southampton is a very good team with very good players and it will be a very tough game but our objective is to try to play well, try to win, take three points and try to keep our position in the table.”
Asked about the threats of Southampton’s in-form new striker Manolo Gabbiadini, Mauricio added: “He’s done exceptionally, he’s scored a lot of goals, he provides very good things to the team but it’s not only Gabbiadini – it’s a lot of players that are very good.
“On Thursday the England national team called up four players from Southampton. The team is very good and are playing very well so be sure that we will find a very tough game.”
Will Harry Kane’s absence affect the team dynamic?
Mauricio: “No, I hope not. During the season we had different players out and the team is the team – we need to perform as well, we need to play in the way that we always play and try to win games.”
Is every game must-win between now and the end of the season?
Mauricio: “I think during the whole season, always when you play it’s a game that you must win. It doesn’t change now because we are in the last period of the season. For us, always we feel the same and always when you play, the challenge is to win.”
