Spurs v Porto U21s - Ugo's preview

22 December 2015|Tottenham Hotspur

Our Under-21s return to action against Portuguese giants FC Porto at Stevenage on Wednesday lunchtime (December 23) – with at least a point needed to ensure progression from the group stage of the Premier League International Cup.

Having lost one and won one of our two previous games in the competition, we’re currently third in the standings on three points and perched just behind second-placed Everton on goal difference.

Ahead of our final group outing against leaders Porto, a 12noon kick-off at the Lamex Stadium, Under-21s Coach Ugo Ehiogu says we’re sure to face a stern examination at the hands of our continental opponents.

“I think it’s probably going to be our toughest technical test to date,” he said. “Porto are a proper ‘B’ team so they’ll have a lot of over-age players who play regularly in a men’s league so it will be a real physical challenge for us.

“They’re likely to be football-savvy so we need to be on our guard and be ready for whatever they throw at us.

“At least one point is needed from our point of view, so we’ll be looking for the boys to show some of the positive traits they have done recently with a high work-ethic. We’ll look to be competitive and hopefully it will be a good afternoon.”

Tickets will be available on the turnstiles at Stevenage, priced at £5 for adults and £2 for concessions. It’s an ideal game to watch in the countdown to Christmas, but if you can’t make it to the stadium, we’ll have live updates on Twitter @SpursOfficial.

Squad: Glover, Voss, Amos, Carter-Vickers, Coulthirst, Georgiou, Harrison, Lesniak, Miller, Onomah, Sonupe, Townsend, Veljkovic, Walker-Peters, Walkes, Winks.
