Spurs v Palace - opposing manager's view

19 August 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew believes there's an energetic feel to our squad ahead of Saturday's meeting at White Hart Lane.

The 55-year-old Eagles chief, who briefly represented us during his playing career in the Intertoto Cup in 1995, is eyeing a first win of the season for his side after their 1-0 opening day reverse against West Brom.

Looking ahead to this weekend's clash, our first home game of the new campaign and Palace's first on the road, Pardew said he expects a particularly stern test in north London.

"Tottenham isn't an ideal away game for our first so we'll have to be at our best tomorrow," he said at his pre-match press conference this morning (Friday, August 19).

"They have a manager proven at this level and an energy in the squad. They'll be better for the experience of last year and they have brought (Vincent) Janssen in to give Harry Kane a little rest here and there.

“We'll have to be very, very good to get something there.”

Our most recent match against Palace came back in February as the Eagles secured a 1-0 victory in the fifth round of the FA Cup at White Hart Lane and Pardew reckons his charges can draw inspiration from that game.

"It was a stout performance," he said. "That's something we will always have. The way Tottenham play, we have to be very good defensively but luckily we can do that."

Here’s a reminder of Mauricio Pochettino’s thoughts ahead of the game.
