Spurs v Palace - Mauricio's preview

Sat 04 November 2017, 14:00|Tottenham Hotspur

“We must be ready.” That’s the resounding message from Mauricio Pochettino as we return to Premier League action against Crystal Palace on Sunday with our magnificent win against Real Madrid in the Champions League still very much fresh in the memory.

We became the first team since 2012 to lower holders Real Madrid’s colours in the group stage of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Mauricio knows it’s time to focus again against a Palace side fighting for their lives in the Premier League. They remain bottom but have showed signs of recovery under new boss Roy Hodgson - including a win against Chelsea and fighting back from 2-0 down to draw against West Ham last weekend.

“We know in football you have to keep your feet on the grass,” said Mauricio. “Every game is so important, every game tough, every game difficult and you cannot be relaxed when you compete at this level.

“The players know - they are happy of course about the Real Madrid result but we’re also conscious that it’s so important to get the three points on Sunday.

“It will help us a lot, that victory, but it’s important to be ready again and to understand that this game is so important for us.”

Mauricio expects a tough test from Palace. “It’s a team that didn’t start the season well, changed their manager and now it’s Roy Hodgson, someone I know very well, we had a very good relationship when he was manager of the national team and I have full respect for him.

“It will be tough. They are in a difficult situation but that always makes this type of game even more difficult. We must be ready to fight, ready to play and give our best.”
