Spurs v Norwich U18s - Kieran's preview
12 February 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Kieran McKenna wants to see another bright performance from our Under-18s against Norwich City after “probably one of the best training weeks of the season.”
We host the Canaries in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League at our Training Centre on Saturday at 12noon, looking to complete a league double over our opponents after a 3-0 win at Norwich back in October.
With the players keen to build some momentum following last week’s 2-1 victory at Swansea City (Spurs TV highlights below) and a creditable 1-1 draw at Leicester City a fortnight ago, Under-18s Coach Kieran wants to see the players translate their good work on the training ground into a match environment once again this weekend.
“The boys have taken the lessons of the last few weeks on board really well and obviously coming off of a good performance last weekend helps too,” he said.
“A lot of the players know that it’s important for them to produce a strong second half of the season and it’s been a decent couple of weeks in terms of training and match performances, but it’s too early to talk about being on a good run or having much momentum – it’s important that they back that up again this weekend and over the next few weeks.
“We’ve had almost a full squad available for training and players returning from international duty as well this week, so we’ve got a very healthy number of individuals to choose from and there’s good competition at the moment to get in the side.
“It’s important as a footballer, though, that you carry the work you do on the training pitch on into the matchdays and the ultimate test is how you can perform in a match environment.
“Norwich usually come here and try to impose themselves on the game but we’ll probably do the same and hopefully our players will come out on top in that battle on Saturday.”
