Spurs v Leicester U18s - John's preview
23 October 2015|Tottenham Hotspur
John McDermott wants our Under-18s players to show their true capabilities in what he expects to be a difficult test against Leicester City on Saturday.
We host the Foxes at the Training Centre in the Barclays Under-18 Premier League off the back of consecutive victories against Norwich City and Swansea City.
Under-18s Coach Kieran McKenna last week spoke about the need for the players to reach the high standards expected of them while continuing to win games and, ahead of this weekend’s clash, Academy Manager John has emphasised how the individuals on the pitch must impose themselves on the contest in order to make progress.
“We’ve been talking a lot recently about making sure that we always work on the basis of competitiveness and hard work, but on top of that it’s essential that the players at least do the basics well,” he said. “If you want to play for Tottenham you’ve got to guarantee that and a bit more.
“We hope that on Saturday we can impose our style a little bit more. Leicester are always very, very strong at this level so it will be a massive test.
“There are quite a few boys involved with the Under-21s this week, so the way we look at that is that it’s a great opportunity for some of the other lads against Leicester.
“Hopefully we can come out of the game with the individuals having shown what they’re capable of doing.”
Kick-off on Saturday is at 11.30am. Follow us on Twitter @SpursOfficial for live updates.
