Tottenham Hotspur v Leeds United

With Tottenham still waving the rebuilding flag and Leeds looking to start again in the summer, it leaves this clash being something of a scramble for end of season places as much as looking to get things right for next year.

Tottenham’s season might not have lived up to the expectation and Glenn Hoddle might not have brought instant success to White Hart Lane but how are the team doing under the former England manager?

Significantly, they have only hit the target with 37% of their shots and that is the worst shooting accuracy in the top flight. The 1.35 goals per game average under Hoddle is actually inferior to the 1.55 goals per game that Spurs managed when George Graham was in charge which may surprise some Tottenham fans.

Leeds have been on a run of poor form and have taken just 13 points from a possible 30 in their last 10 games. In a league table over that period of time it would leave David O’Leary’s team languishing in ninth place. One aspect of their game that has been good throughout the season is their shooting. In polar opposite to Tottenham, Leeds have hit the target with 50% of their shots which is the best return in the Premiership.

Hoddle’s team might be off aim with their shooting but this season has seen the Lillywhites keep possession with a greater degree of authority. Their pass completion rate of 75% is fairly decent and significantly is one percentage points better than Leeds. During Graham’s last season at the club, the Spurs players were finding each other with just 69% of their distribution so there has been some improvement in the side.

Their will be more pressure on Leeds to get something from this game as the battle to get back in the hunt for a Champions League place but Tottenham will want to prove that they can compete with the top teams. So far this season Spurs have picked up just nine points against team in the top half of the table and only Middlesbrough and Leicester have harvested fewer points than that.

Much to play for then, and this could make this tie a far meatier prospect than many people might have first thought.

Match referee: U Rennie

After being demoted to the Nationwide for a season, Mr Rennie is back in the big time. He has clearly learnt to calm down a bit more as he has only handed out one red card from the 12 games that he had been in charge of.

Sheringham v Fowler

Injured duo Neil Sullivan and Christian Ziege, who both missed the draw at Middlesbrough, are still out so Kasey Keller and Matthew Etherington are likely to continue in goal and on the left wing respectively for Spurs.

Teddy Sheringham, who was demoted to the bench for the trip to the Riverside, could be recalled in place of Sergei Rebrov in attack.

Les Ferdinand another absentee from the Middlesbrough game, is unlikely to recover from a hamstring problem to play but Dean Richards, who was on the bench after an achilles injury, could figure.

Gary Doherty and Stephen Clemence have both played for the reserves on their comebacks from injury, and could figure. Clemence was an unused substitute against Boro.

Captain Rio Ferdinand and Harry Kewell are Leeds' main concerns ahead of their trip to White Hart Lane.

Ferdinand missed the defeat to Manchester United when he failed a late fitness test but will hope to recover from a knee injury to play.

Kewell limped off at Elland Road with a bruised foot and is likely to miss out. Lee Bowyer, who came on as a substitute and scored against Manchester United, is his likely replacement. Olivier Dacourt, Michael Duberry, Lucas Radebe and Michael Bridges are all still out.
