As our clash with Everton draws nearer, the latest instalment of our ‘top fives’ series looks at our best goals against the Toffees in the Premier League era.
SPURS V EVERTON – TOP FIVES – PREMIER LEAGUE GOALS AGAINST EVERTON
Jurgen Klinsmann - 2-1 - White Hart Lane - August 24, 1994
Just four days after his iconic goal and dive celebration on his Premier League debut at Sheffield Wednesday, home fans were praying for a repeat at the Lane. Their prayers were answered just 21 minutes in with another goal to go down in Spurs folklore. Darren Anderton crossed, Teddy Sheringham headed back into the danger area and Stuart Nethercott helped the ball on again to allow Jurgen to swivel and hit an overhead kick into the top corner. Cue another dive celebration - even Ian Walker joined in! Jurgen scored a second to make it three goals in two games on his way to 29 in all competitions in the 1994-95 season.
Fredi Kanoute - 3-0 - White Hart Lane - October 4, 2003
It was goalless at the Lane as half-time approached in this Autumn clash, and Kasey Keller prepared to take a goal-kick. Kasey cleared downfield, Fredi headed on, Gus Poyet nodded the ball back into the striker's path and Fredi hit a barnstorming dipping volley from 35 yards beyond the despairing dive of Nigel Martyn in the Toffees' goal. Gus added the second goal and Robbie Keane the third.
Dean Marney - 5-2 - White Hart Lane - New Year's Day, 2005
This was Academy product Dean's New Year's Day to remember at the Lane. The midfielder scored twice as we secured a 5-2 victory, with his second goal an absolute peach. Dean took off from halfway and as his pathway to goal cleared, he opted to go himself - a wise decision, as he curled into the top corner from 20 yards. Reto Ziegler, Pedro Mendes and Keane were also on target.
Jermaine Jenas - 2-1 - Goodison Park - February 21, 2007
Dimitar Berbatov finished clinically to hand us the lead, Mikel Arteta equalised before half-time and it looked like a point apiece as time ran out - but JJ had other ideas. Picking the ball up in a yard of space, Jermaine turned and curled a beauty into the bottom corner from 25 yards to hand us the victory.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto - 2-0 - White Hart Lane - January 11, 2012
Benoit may have only scored four goals in his 204 appearances, but two were memorable strikes – with the Merseyside teams in his sights! Few will forget his belter against Liverpool on the opening day of 2009-10, the first points on our way to Champions League qualification that season, and this humdinger wasn't far behind. Picking the ball up fully 30 yards out, Benoit let rip, his shot touching slightly off Tim Cahill and rocketing into the top corner. Aaron Lennon also scored.
