Spurs v CSKA - Mauricio's preview
07 December 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Victory against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League this evening would clearly mean a lot for Mauricio Pochettino.
Pride is at stake at Wembley, and so is a place in the Europa League. If we avoid defeat, we’ll go into the Europa League Round of 32 in February and Mauricio is driven to win at the national stadium.
“It’s very important for us because we want to be involved in the Europa League,” said Mauricio. “Then I think the most important thing is to show we can win at Wembley and make Wembley our home.
“We cannot blame Wembley because we didn’t play well in the last two games against Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen. We didn’t deserve to win those games and that was about our performances. Now we need to take responsibility, try to play well, try to win the game and make Wembley our home.”

Indeed, if you ever wondered how much the Club means to Mauricio, here’s how he responded when asked about our magnificent support at Wembley…
We’ve seen 85,000 fans turn up for both matches, Mauricio, how much would you like to see that support there again?
Mauricio: “Yes, that’s embarrassing us and it’s a shame (that we’ve lost twice) with all the support we received from our fans. It was tough, we all feel disappointed because we didn’t give them all they deserve. We feel bad for that, disappointed and we want to take this opportunity to offer a good performance, a good win and try to make Wembley our home.”
It says a lot how you answered that question, to say you feel embarrassed…
Mauricio: “That’s the reality. It’s not about finding excuses, it’s because we didn’t play well with different players and different formations. In all the circumstances, we didn’t play well and if you don’t play well, you don’t deserve (to win).
“It’s no good to try to find excuses, only to take responsibility. The most important thing is to show that it (the previous two games) were an accident, we didn’t play well and that we’re in a good way, focused on trying to win and then being involved in the Europa League because it’s important for the Club to be involved in European competition.”
