Spurs v Chelsea U21s - Ugo's preview

11 January 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Ugo Ehiogu has underlined the need for our Under-21s to show a competitive edge against Chelsea tonight (Monday, January 11).

We take on the Blues in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League at Stevenage in front of the live Sky Sports cameras, keen to complete a domestic double after our memorable 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture back in October.

The lads are heading into the game off the back of a disappointing defeat at Manchester United last week, but Under-21s Coach Ugo says his charges are fully aware of the standards they need to hit if we’re to get the better of our London rivals this evening.

“What we’ve always done, certainly against Chelsea last time and against the majority of the teams we’ve faced this season, is compete,” he said. “That’s allowed us to go and play our football and it’s been the platform for some of our best performances so far.

“We had a very honest and sometimes unpleasant debrief after the United game last week and to be fair the boys accepted that we were sometimes below the competitive standard required.

“No football match can be won without that and the more that message sinks in, the better the reaction will be.

“In general this season the reaction has always been good after a disappointing game so the boys are up for it tonight and we’re raring to go.”

Kick-off at Stevenage’s Lamex Stadium is at 7.30pm, with the game being broadcast live by Sky Sports.

Tickets are available on the turnstiles, priced at £5 for adults and £2 for concessions, but if you can’t get to the game we’ll have live updates on Twitter @SpursOfficial.

Squad: Glover, Voss, Amos, Carter-Vickers, Coulthirst, Georgiou, Goddard, Lesniak, Miller, J Pritchard, Sonupe, Townsend, Veljkovic, Walkes, Winks.
