Tottenham Hotspur v Charlton Athletic

Tottenham will try to pick up the pieces of their season on Monday night, when Charlton Athletic visit White Hart Lane in a game to be televised on Sky's Premiership Plus channel 433.

Glenn Hoddle's team are very low on confidence at the moment after suffering three consecutive 4-0 defeats in recent games and are just playing for pride in their final nine games of the Premiership season.

Three points on Monday would see them leapfrog their opponents in the Premiership table, but that will be no easy feat against their rivals from across the capital.

The Addicks have not lost a single match in their seven London derbies to date this season and in fact have taken a highly impressive 15 points out of a possible 21 for all the capital heroics. Alan Curbishley's team must be of the one most under-reported teams in the Premiership.

But that's just the way they like things - no news is good news and with just one defeat in their last six their policy of just concentrating on their football appears to be paying off.

Curbishley's closely-knit band of talented youngsters such as Paul Konchesky and Scott Parker and old heads like Graham Stuart and Chris Powell have combined well to produce some fine performances this season. Their defence is certainly a lot more solid than their hosts, conceding an average of just 1.17 goals per game compared to Spurs tally of 1.52.

The arrival of Jorge Costa on loan from Porto has bolstered the Addicks defence and his experience has benefited the likes of Jonathan Fortune whose game has improved dramatically over the last few months. It may be argued that Fortune was playing for a much more high-profile club, he would have had to cope with a more demanding interest in his development, but the 21-year-old has been allowed to progress in relative harmony.

Fortune should be capable of dealing with a Spurs attack that has failed to score in their last three games and are the most unproductive team in terms of shooting accuracy. Just 37% of their goal attempts have been on target and in their last 14 Premiership games regular strikers Les Ferdinand and Teddy Sheringham have scored just four goals between them, with the latter not finding the back of the net since early December.

Nevertheless a punt on the Spurs skipper scoring the only goal of the game pay dividends at 20/1, as he is sure to end this barren spell before too long. But Charlton, who have not lost at Tottenham for over 12 years will be fairly confident of preserving their proud record in London derbies when they take to the field at White Hart Lane on Monday evening.

Match referee: J. Winter

Jeff Winter takes charge of this London derby at White Hart Lane. Having handled this season’s bitter Spurs v Arsenal encounter the Teesside official should find this game possessing a great deal more ebb and flow to it. Winter has not dismissed any Premiership players since the first week of the season, so even Mauricio Taricco may stay out of trouble.

Davies v Young

Spurs defender Dean Richards is struggling with a hamstring injury. Les Ferdinand and Ben Thatcher also face late fitness tests, but Darren Anderton (hamstring) should be back and Stephen Clemence may return after a steady comeback with the reserves.

Addicks defender Steve Brown is doubtful after suffering a knee injury with the reserves, while Shaun Bartlett is still short of match fitness and may not be risked.

Charlton will also be without first-team regulars Mark Kinsella, Richard Rufus, Radostin Kishishev, Claus Jensen and Mathias Svensson because of injury.
