Spurs v Burnley - Mauricio's preview

18 December 2016|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino says focus is key ahead of Burnley’s visit to the Lane today.

He knows better than to take anything for granted in the Premier League.

Burnley arrive in N17 without win in seven away matches and having scored one goal. Meanwhile, we’ll defend an unbeaten record on home soil with six wins and two draws in our eight games.

“In my experience in different leagues like France or Spain - and I can now assess England - it’s different in the Premier League,” said Mauricio.

“You must always give your best, 120 per cent to try to win the game and if not, if it’s 80 or 90 per cent, it’s not enough.

“Burnley are a team that runs a lot and every team that plays against Burnley is in for a difficult game. For us, it’s important to be fresh and to focus on what we need to do to beat them.”

Burnley narrowly lost 1-0 via a penalty at West Ham on Wednesday. “That was a close game that changed with the penalty,” said Mauricio. “You can always see this in the Premier League - Leicester beat Manchester City, then lost against Bournemouth. It’s a very competitive league and the most important thing is to be focused for every game and try to give your best.”
