Spurs v Boro (FAYC) - Kieran's preview
06 January 2016|Tottenham Hotspur
Kieran McKenna has warned our Academy players to expect a “completely different test” to that which they faced in the last round when we take on Middlesbrough in the FA Youth Cup at Stevenage tonight (Wednesday, January 6).
The lads put four goals past Rotherham United without reply last time out in this competition, but Under-18s Coach Kieran says another huge effort will be required if we’re to get through this evening’s fourth round clash.
“Middlesbrough have a very good reputation and have consistently turned out good players so we know they’ll come out strong for the game but, as always, we’ll focus on ourselves,” said Kieran.
“It was pleasing to come through the previous round quite smoothly but the boys know this will be a completely different test against another tough opposing side but that’s hopefully something they’re all looking forward to because as young players you want to prove yourselves and compete against the other best players from your age group.
“We’ve got talent in the group but the players know that they must go out there and work hard.
“We beat Middlesbrough in the FA Youth Cup two years ago and two of the standout performers that day were Josh Onomah and Harry Winks who have obviously pushed on since then, so hopefully some boys will come out of this game having put on a standout performance to show that they’ve got a bright future ahead.”
Kick-off at Stevenage’s Lamex Stadium tonight is at 7pm. Tickets are available on the turnstiles, priced at £5 for adults and £2 for concessions.
