Spurs to the rescue

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Farmer Tom Doe will always be grateful to a particular Spurs baseball cap.

The 78-year-old dairy man (pictured right), who farms high up on the top of a hill on the Essex-Suffolk borders at Rushley Green, was given the brand new hat by our press officer John Fennelly.

Despite being a life-long season ticket holder at Ipswich, the farmer wore the cap that afternoon and was glad to have it as he rounded a high hedge in one of his fields.

Because lying upside down in a ditch of slurry was one of his prize cows.

Tom jumped in and tried to right the giant animal which was choking to death and near to exhaustion while his grandson ran for the tractor.

Farmer Doe takes up the story: "The poor animal had so much slurry in her mouth and nose that she couldn't breath. I stopped her from sliding in any further but the only thing I had to clear her airways was my new baseball cap.

"It did a great job and literally kept her breathing until the tractor arrived and we pulled her from the ditch. Unfortunately the hat's now a bit worse for wear and hanging in a sorry state in my greenhouse - but at least I don't have to wear the thing any more!"

We've sent the old boy a new one because that's got to be the most ridiculous excuse anyone's ever come up with for not wearing a Spurs hat!

Commented John Fennelly: "It's actually a true story!"
